The Heart of Our Business
Spring has sprung (or is currently springing...)!
And I don’t know about you, but it has left me feeling energized and ready to come out of hibernation to take on the world. Well, maybe not the world—let’s set realistic expectations.
But I have been feeling energized and motivated to do some strategery. Particularly, I’ve been thinking about how we do business at TPP, what works, and where our opportunities lie.
Until I get those kinks worked out of the opportunities enough to share publicly, I thought I’d share the areas of our business, team, and processes that make me super proud.
Spoiler Alert: it all revolves around relationships and authenticity.
When I first started The People Perspective, anything related to selling made me uncomfortable. It felt gross to try to convince people to pay me money for my support.
I talked to a LOT of people who told me how to pitch my services, that I should have coffee with anyone who would meet with me, and that I should be door knocking and cold calling. While there’s a time and place for that, in my business (and others), that’s not how we do business now. (Phew!)
I’ve discovered that building relationships in our community and doing what’s right is the best selling tactic of all. Again, this might not work for every business, but it has worked for us for several years—and it feels great.
We take care of our clients and our community. We seek to build meaningful relationships both inside and outside our network. And we show up as our goofy, quirky, authentic selves.
It doesn’t work for everyone, but it doesn’t have to. It works for us.
I was recently told, by someone I respect and trust, that I need to get back to the basics. For me, relationships and authenticity are the basics that have worked for this business through thick and thin. And I’m super proud that they have.
Again, it might not be the right approach for you, but there might be a nugget or two you can use.
What are your basics? I’d love to hear about them.
Happy Spring!
