How on earth is it November? We are rapidly moving towards a new year and I don’t feel like I’m fully integrated into 2025 yet. And yet, full steam ahead. This month, we are focused on highlighting emerging trends that are impacting the workplace and getting you ready for 2026.

And, as I have said multiple times since 2020, it’s complicated. We are seeing demands from employees and a new generation in the workforce that contradict what employers are willing and able to spend and/or accommodate. And add to that, a new administration that is busy rolling back the policies and programs we got used to under the previous administration.

So, what can you do as you prepare to move into a new calendar year? Well, for starters, you can read the content from my other team members on trends and tips. But also, you can plan.

· Plan for 2026 by asking what is important to your employees. If everything is important, then nothing is important. Poll them, hold focus groups, do a survey. Ask them what 1 or 2 things they would value in 2026 that you can provide. Then LISTEN. Take Action! Put a plan in place.

· Plan for 2026 by creating, revisiting or dusting off your strategic plan. Now don’t come at me, but I love a good ole SWOT analysis. Especially if you haven’t ever done one or if it’s been a minute. Do this with your team and then USE IT. Make a plan that addresses those weaknesses and opportunities and capitalizes on your strength and opportunities.

· Plan for 2026 by creating and sticking to a budget. This is a great follow up to the above 2 items. Where do you want to invest? Where should you/could you scale back? Have you looked at COLA? Do you have pay ranges developed? None of us have money to throw around. Be strategic with yours.

· Plan for 2026 by having a plan. Yes, a budget and strategic plan are er, plans, but what is your plan outside of that? Do you have a cadence to watch these? Are metrics in place that you can track success to? It’s ok to start small, just start somewhere.

And you don’t have to do it alone. If we can help you with any of these (and they are all within our wheelhouse), let us know. We want to see a bunch of success in 2026 and these are the tools to get there.

Happy Turkey Month. I hope your month and holiday are full of exactly what you need. (and all the gravy your heart desires).
