March Toward Clarity

March Toward Clarity, Because Confusion Is Costly!

“Real talk” commencing…….work in 2026 so far feels like the Oklahoma weather, bright hot & sunny skies one hour, OR day. Then, sideways wind or freezing temps the next. People aren’t burning out because they’re fragile, they’re burning out because they’re unsure of what to expect…That is exhausting. And uncertainty is expensive. Only 31% of U.S. employees feel fully engaged, while 17% are actively disengaged, a gap tied to hundreds of billionseleventieths (Kristi’s number lol) in lost productivity. It is billions of dollars in lost productivity! When expectations are fuzzy, motivation and performance slide.

Here’s the good news, clarity is energizing! When people know what good looks like, stress drops and momentum rises! When employees understand what they need to be successful, their productivity jumps 63%, motivation 59%, and satisfaction 54%. That’s not luck, that’s leadership!

And employees are asking for more of it. SHRM’s latest data shows worker expectations are higher than ever, while employers say effective leadership is their top need to navigate 2026’s pressures. Translation: your people want honest direction, not guesswork.

Let’s talk about the part where leaders often postpone hard conversations. They’re uncomfortable. I get it! But they’re how we turn confusion into confidence. When we talk about performance gaps, shifting priorities, or mixed messages directly (and kindly), teams get alignment, accountability, and trust. Leaders are stretched, though: 71% report stress increased, and 40% are considering leaving, which makes clarity even more vital up and down the chain.

Culture adds another twist. Only 36% of workers say their company culture is well‑defined. We hear this all the time! Many describe it as reactive or inconsistent, or non-existent. Clear, consistent leadership communication is the glue that keeps culture from crumbling.

How to “March Toward Clarity” right now! Use these warm, simple moves to make clarity your team’s daily experience:

1. Have the conversation you’ve been avoiding.

Lead with care and candor: “I want you to feel confident about what great looks like—can we align today?” Say what matters, why it matters, and what success looks like. Invite their perspective. Hard conversations handled well build trust, not tension.

2. Give people the Top Three, every week.

If everything is urgent, nothing is. Share the three priorities that truly matter, define “done,” and note what can wait. This keeps the work and effort pointed at outcomes that count, resisting overload.

3. Close the loop with a clarity check.

Ask: “What are your takeaways?” Don’t assume understanding, confirm it.

4. Explain the why, not just the what.

Context lowers anxiety and raises commitment, especially as expectations rise and change accelerates. Employees will create their own story if you don’t tell them the why.

5. Be authentic and consistent.

Your team wants a human leader, not a fake or a script. Be true to you while also consistent with the messaging. Consistency is how cultures feel safe and teams stay engaged. And be kind.

6. Clarify human + AI handoffs.

As AI reshapes work, specify what people own and what AI supports. This reduces role confusion, speeds decisions, and protects morale.

Clarity Is the opposite of luck. Luck is inconsistent. Clarity is a strategy. And in a workplace where engagement is slipping and expectations are rising, clarity is the leadership edge that sets teams free to perform. We train, coach, and consult leaders on this topic on a regular and frequent basis. Reach out today to let us know what we can do to support a successful 2026 strategy!
